There are some sure signs that you have, indeed, become your parents.
Grumbling over how easy kids have it nowadays, looking forward to going to sleep more than getting up, noticing and caring if your steak order is perfectly cooked and , yes, getting pure tinglelicious delight over a really good pair of socks.
I’ve tried quite a few different brands of alpaca socks, mostly crew socks as I’m a rather <ahem> casual dresser. Some were a bit itchy, some wore out too quickly, and others had an annoyingly tight cuff . But last Christmas I received a pair of Warrior High Performance Crew Sport socks as a gift from a friend and I decided to try them out the next morning for a cold winter morning run.
Wow. I’m in love.
What’s so great about these socks? It’s hard to describe but here’s my attempt to list
The Top Ten Things I Love About these Socks:
- It hugs your foot. That is, the heel actually cups your heel and the ribbing around the instep hugs your instep. It feels like real arch support. No gap between heel and the ball of your foot
- The cuff stays up but isn’t uncomfortably tight. Other alpaca socks I have seem to have a tight rubber band at the top of the cuff that is really restricting and uncomfortable.
- It’s nice and thick but not too thick. For these I have to loosen up the laces on my running shoes a bit but everything still fits comfortably. I don’t actually have to go up a shoe size
- No excessive fuzziness. After washing, these don’t suddenly morph into fuzzy socks. Sure, they look worn, but there’s no instant mohair effect
- Toe seam is undetectable. No bunchy and uncomfortable seam across the toe
- Really warm- really! These are my must wear socks on the sub 20 degree mornings. I have yet to get numb toes when wearing these
- Plushy and cushioned. Yes, I really can feel a difference in the shock absorption
- No itching. None, nada, nothing at all. Hooray!
- The sock height. Not too high, not too low. Keeps my ankles warm but doesn’t get into kneeknocker territory.
- Color. It comes in black and white. Yay! I really like having black alpaca socks – not grey, brown, or some other amalgam of natural colors. I can sneak wearing these in a nicer black shoe boot and not be worried if the cuff sticks out above. Hey – I never made any claims to being a fashionista.
I like these socks so much, I’m donating a pair along with a gift certificate to the Silent Auction at the 2009 MoPaca Invitational at the end of March, along with singing the socks’ praises. By now, you must be asking…how much ownership does she have in this sock company? The answer is none! But I know a good thing when I find it and that’s why Warrior High Performance Crew Sport Socks make it into our list of Things We Love.
